Dr. Tyler Newton

Dr. Tyler Newton was born in Portland, Oregon but spent the majority of his life in Southern California. He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Cultural Anthropology. After graduation he taught English in Beirut, Lebanon for one year before returning to Southern California. It was then that he developed a passion for horses and began to shadow a local farrier. This led to him attending Cowtown Horseshoeing School in Miles City, Montana and starting his own farrier business which operated for nearly 5 years. His desire to learn as much as possible about horses and horse care naturally led to veterinary school.

Dr. Newton earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis. While attending UCD, he was an active member of the student chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, holding positions of Co-President Elect followed by Co- President. He was also the student representative for Platinum Performance for 2 years.

Once completing his degree, Dr. Newton spent one year as an intern at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center, where he then remained on staff as an Associate Veterinarian for 3 years.

Looking for a change of pace Dr. Newton moved to Oregon to become an Associate Veterinarian at Bend Equine Medical Center.

Dr. Newton has trained and shown in the jumper circuit, along with starting many young horses. He has recently begun learning the exciting sport of sorting and team penning! To extend his knowledge of hay and equine nutrition, he also manages his family’s hay farm in Tumalo. Dr. Newton enjoys photography, hiking, riding, and spending time with his wife and three daughters. In his free time you can find him supporting their daughters in a wide range of activities & competitions!

Erika Perez

Erika was born and grew up in Northern California on a working ranch where she raised many farm animals including horses, sheep, cattle, goats, alpacas, donkeys, chickens and wolfdogs. Her passion for animals and especially horses began at an early age when her parents would take her for weekly pony rides. She began formal riding lessons, and owned her first horse by the time she was 15. Her passion for competition also grew as she participated in various club, high school and collegiate sports.

Erika graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Poultry sciences with an emphasis in Equine. Her job as a barn manager allowed her to put what she learned into practice. Following college she spent time as an Equine Technician for a rehab clinic and a sports medicine practice in the Bay Area. She relocated to Redmond in 2022 with her family, where she’s continued her passion for animals with a career as a vet assistant.

Erika has both large and small animal experience and is thrilled to be on the Newton’s team to assist with all of the exciting day to day animal activities. When she is not working, she can be found managing her boarding facility, Cline Falls Equestrian, or competing in eventing shows across Oregon, Washington, Montana, and California with her horse Carlos.

Denali Hart

Denali was born and raised in Central Oregon. She grew up riding horses, cross country skiing and playing soccer. Despite growing up in a family that knew nothing about horses, she managed to become surrounded by horses, both professionally and personally.

She started riding lessons and showing when she was four. Then started competing in the hunter jumper and equation classes in middle school.

In 2013, she started her first business training horses and teaching lessons, and graduated from Redmond Proficiency Academy shortly after. Her senior year, she started her rookie year in professional rodeo, competitively barrel racing.

Following her passion of helping and assisting horses heal, Denali started her second business in 2018. DLH Equine Services allows Denali to specialize in conditioning and recovery from injuries with a Class 4 laser therapy, PEMF, and equine nutrition. Her passion for equine nutrition can be attributed to her past horse Callie, who struggled after her PSSM1 diagnosis. Finding success in Complete Equine Performance supplements, Denali became the Oregon distributor where she enjoys helping horse owners find the best nutritional programs for their horses.

She is on track to graduate from Equine Studies Institute with a Professional Horse Trainer Certification and Professional Stable Manager Certification in 2024.

In her off time, Denali is the head OHSET coach for Summit High School, competes on the NPRA and Wild West Events circuit, and loves spending time with her dogs, horses, her mini mule, and her cows.

You can find Denali occasionally assisting Dr. Newton, and managing the Tumalo Ridge Equine social media.
